Program Description:


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

-4 days in Beijing, 2 days in Qufu, and 2 weeks in Guangzhou!

-Course satisfies Core Requirements: Faith & Reason, Engaged Learning Flag, and Oral Communication Flag
-Experience China's historical monuments, mountains, temples, and monasteries Be with Chinese students in the classroom

-Learn about religious rituals in an indigenous environment See China up close and personal

ACADEMICS

Philosophy & Religious Rituals (4 units)

The class will focus on two main activities each day. Each morning session is dedicate to one particular topic. After a one hour lecture by a faculty participant, the LMU and Chinese students will break into small groups of five or six students each for discussion. After forty minutes of exchange, the whole class assembles and each group makes a short oral report.

The afternoon session consists in visiting religious sites in Guangzhou, including Buddhist and Daoist monasteries, Sacred Heart Cathedral, and a Protestant church. Each student will write a joint report with a Chinese classmate for a final assignment.
 


PROGRAM FEES

All Amenities Are Provided!

Cost: 4 credits of LMU summer tuition plus summer registration fee ($1,485 x 4 + 65) 
Deposit: Applicants must submit a deposit of $500 in order to complete the application. This non-refundable deposit will be credited to your Summer tuition.

Includes international and domestic airline tickets (LAX—Guangzhou—Beijing—LAX), all lodging, admission fees, transportation, most meals, and more!

-Four days in Beijing, the capital of China. Visit the Great Wall, Lama Temple, Confucius Temple, Ox Street Mosque, Wangfujing Night Market, Tian'anmen Square, and more!
-Two weeks in Sun Yat-sen University while visiting Luofa Mountain and the Buddhist temples of Yunmen.
-Spend the night in temples and participate in authentic Chinese rituals.
-Study at Sun Yat-sen University, one of the leading universities in China. Sun Yat-sen University is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary university, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences, medical sciences, pharmacology, and management science. In all, Sun Yat-sen University has approximately 83,508 students. The University is located in Guangdong Province and is an hour train ride from Hong Kong and Macao.
